Job purpose
This job includes retail duties such as sales clerk and stocking. Cafe duties such as preparing coffee, heating cafe items in an oven, and selling beer, wine and other drinks to customers. Responsible for maintaining the store's clean and organized appearance. Must have a positive and happy attitude, especially with all customers.
Duties and responsibilities
Cashier:
- Welcoming customers once they walk in the door and answering the phone
- Operate cash register, take payments and give receipts (making it quick and seamless)
- Promoting any add-ons — like rewards programs, membership or other miscellaneous items — before the customer checks out
- Assisting with returns and exchanges
- Answering all customer inquiries (a concern, product question, or damage control when a problem occurs, and elevating to Manager when necessary)
- Able to learn and retain product knowledge for basic games and products
Cafe Assistant:
- Take customer orders for food and drink (including beer & wine)
- Prepare and serve food and drink for customers (on the premises or to go)
- Operate a coffee machine to make coffee and oven for warming/prepping food items on menu
- Clear away used dishes and cutlery from tables
- Clean and prepare tables, chairs and other surfaces between usage and as needed
- Wash dishes, cutlery and cooking utensils and cafe equipment as needed
- Replenishing supplies, including silverware, napkins, cups, straws, salt and pepper, to ensure availability for customers
- General housekeeping duties such as sweeping, cleaning bathroom and kitchen
- Perform inventory as directed and alert manager when supplies are low
- Communicate with management when special products are needed or having problems with food quality, presentation or kitchen equipment
Qualifications
Required:
- Must be over 18 years of age (due to alcohol being sold and served)
- Able to learn and retain training for kitchen and cafe skills, food preparation and proper handling; and proper handling of kitchen equipment
- Ability to work unsupervised but understand when to seek assistance
- Strong communication and organization skills
- Good customer service, are reliable and well presented
- Ability to work quickly and as a team in a fast-paced environment
- Reliable transportation and be on time for shifts
- Exemplary customer care skills
- Good analytical and problem solving skills
Appreciated but not required:
- Previous kitchen or waitstaff experience.
- ServSafe certification.
- Computer literacy (software proficiency such as Word and scheduling programs)
Working conditions/Physical Requirements
Sedentary, sitting, walking, standing, occasional lifting (overhead, waist level) from floor, bending, frequent near vision use for reading and computer use. Lifting may include boxes up to 20 pounds. Work involves physical effort encountered in normal, everyday retail situations.
